Child safety standards

Version 2026-08-01

These are the rules the product itself enforces, not aspirations. Where a rule is a technical control rather than a promise, we say so.

1. Parents are in control

  • • A child profile can only be created by a guardian, from a verified adult account.
  • • Children have no independent account at launch. Student mode is unlocked from the parent's device with a parent PIN.
  • • Guardians can see every consent they have given, when, and against which version of which policy — and can withdraw it.

2. We collect as little as possible

  • • A preferred name is enough. We never require a child's full legal name.
  • • A date of birth is optional; an age band works just as well for course matching.
  • • Instructor-facing views show a preferred name and last initial where that is sufficient.
  • • Learning and accessibility notes are restricted to the people who need them to teach.

3. No private child–adult channel

There is no direct private messaging between an instructor and a child anywhere in the product. This is a design decision, not a setting. If we ever add a message channel, every thread will be visible to the guardian, retained, reportable and moderated.

4. No public child profiles

Children are not discoverable. There is no public profile, no social feed, no student-to-student messaging and no leaderboard. Achievements are shown to the child and their guardian only.

5. Recording is off

Classes are not recorded. Should recording ever be introduced for a specific purpose, it would require explicit, versioned guardian consent, a stated retention period, restricted access and a visible recording indicator during the session.

6. Instructor vetting and oversight

  • • Every instructor is interviewed, reference-checked and observed teaching before being assigned a cohort.
  • • Instructors see only the students assigned to them, and only the information needed to teach.
  • • Instructors cannot view payment amounts, other families, or export the customer list.
  • • Attendance corrections after the lock window require an administrator and generate an audit record.

7. No advertising to children

We do not run behavioural advertising based on a child's activity, and we do not sell child data. Our analytics deliberately exclude child names, notes, submission content and meeting links.

8. Raising a concern

If you have a concern about a session, an instructor or another child's behaviour, contact us with “safety” in the subject line. Safety messages bypass the normal support queue. We will acknowledge the same working day and tell you what we did.

A note on jurisdiction

CedarNova Academy operates from Lebanon. Families in other countries may have additional rights under local law, including COPPA in the United States and the GDPR in the European Union. Contact us and we will act on any request those laws give you.
